چکیده

The deleterious effects of mercury (Hg) contamination are well documented in humans and wildlife. Chronic exposure via diet maternal transfer two pathways which increase the toxicological risk for wild populations. However, few studies examined physiological impact Hg crocodilians. We investigated neonate Smooth-fronted Caimans, Paleosuchus trigonatus , use keratinized tissues blood to evaluate transfer. Between November 2017 February 2020, we sampled 38 neonates from 4 distinct nests. Mercury concentration was measured claws, scutes total blood. Highest concentrations were found claws. Strong inter-nest variations (Hg ranging 0.17 ± 0.02 0.66 0.07 ?g.g ?1 dw) presumably reflect Reduced body size characterized by elevated suggests an influence during embryonic development. emphasize claws as alternative egg collection investigate Our results demonstrated need further investigation first life stages • Total . Claw sampling quantify through Effects on neonates.

The effect of dam construction on the movement of dwarf caimans, Paleosuchus trigonatus and Paleosuchus palpebrosus, in Brazilian Amazonia

Run-of-the-river hydroelectric dams cause changes in seasonal inundation of the floodplains, and this may cause displacement of semi-aquatic vertebrates present before dam construction. This study evaluated the movement of crocodilians before and after the filling of the Santo Antônio hydroelectric reservoir on the Madeira River in the Brazilian Amazon, which occurred in November 2011. We radio...

Temporal variation in black-caiman-nest predation in varzea of central Brazilian amazonia

On the Amazon floodplain, the main predators of black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) eggs are jaguars (Panthera onca), tegu lizards (Tupinambis teguixim), capuchin monkeys (Sapajus macrocephalus) and humans (Homo sapiens). In this study, we investigated the relationship between predator attacks on nests and incubation period, and evaluated the influence of initial predation on subsequent predation...
